Design for seasonal changes and year-round interest

Planting Design is a standard part of a full garden design but can also be carried out as a service on its own. Reviewing and redesigning the planting is an effective way to transform your garden without the need for heavy construction work.

As a standalone service, Planting Design focuses on introducing new plants within the existing hard landscaping. When working with areas of lawn, there are usually opportunities to adjust the shapes of the existing borders or to create brand new ones.

Initially, we will discuss your ideas and expectations for the planting scheme. I will take photographs of the whole garden and survey the area to be planted up.

Following this, we spend some time looking at options and setting the parameters of the planting style and dominant colours. All this should give me enough information to prepare a detailed Planting Plan:

  • a scale drawing showing the names and locations of the plants

  • a plant shopping list

  • guidance notes for the preparation of the soil and plant aftercare.

There are three options with regards to the implementation:

a) you do it yourself in your own time,

b) you hire a landscaping contractor to do it for you,

c) you engage me to do it.

There are advantages to choosing option (c). I always make sure that the ground is prepared well for the new arrivals and I am able to adjust the design in case of issues with plant availability so that the final design remains balanced and harmonious. And I will be on hand to answer any questions you might have after the implementation.

"Eva provided an excellent layout design, recommended and supplied the new plants and lawn extension and carried out all the planting, often whilst giving advice on future maintenance requirements. I am delighted with the overall result and have no hesitation in recommending her" Barrie from Gillingham

“Many, many thanks for all your hard work in digging, designing and planting my garden. It has been truly transformed! I look forward to seeing it when the plants have grown, when it will be even more splendid that it is now. Everyone who sees it cannot believe the difference in ‘before’ and ‘after’! Thank you also for all your suggestions and advice along the way. I will be sure to tap into that knowledge of yours in the future!” Pauline from Rainham
